Brazilian Skipper (Calpodes ethlius ) Life History

Brazilian Skipper egg

Recently-emerged caterpillar

An early instar (perhaps third or fourth?)

Resting in leaf shelter, 12-16-10

Late instar, just after molt - note head is still white (Austin)

Final instar

Pupa of Brazilian Skipper (Austin)

I have not yet had opportunity to raise a Brazilian Skipper from the egg, but I've been able to collect a number of photos of different stages of development. Two pictures (so labeled) were taken in Austin, TX; the others were taken of caterpillars from Edinburg, Texas. Thanks especially to Dan Hardy and Cat Traylor for leading me to these specimens.
