On March 14, 2010, I observed a female Western Giant Swallowtail oviposit the egg pictured at the right on Lime Prickly-Ash, Zanthoxylum fagara. The caterpillar did not eclose until nine days later. The caterpillar took three weeks to mature; the adult emerged two weeks after that.
